You know his views on politics or her favorite song. You are ready to move beyond the surface level of conversation, ready to ask questions that will provoke deeper understanding and intimacy in your relationship. Where do you begin?

The following is a list of thought-provoking questions, perfect for car trips, long walks, or after-dinner discussions. Try asking your significant other a few of these to discover more about who he/she truly is. You might be surprised!

  1. What are your favorite childhood memories?
  2. What was your first real memory?
  3. Did your family have any special or unusual traditions?
  4. What were your favorite subjects in school?
  5. What was your favorite grade in school?
  6. What did you want to be when you grew up?
  7. Did you have any pets as a child?
  8. Did your family ever go on any memorable vacations?
  9. Did your family have any struggles as you were growing up?
