If you live in So. Cal, try going to the 3rd street promenade in Santa Monica in the evening on the weekends. Three or four blocks are blocked off and it is a strip of stores, cart vendors and people performing. It is really pretty, all the trees are lit by Christmas lights, they have romantic little cafes and eateries and when you are done with that, you can walk to the pier, go on the ferris wheel and walk down to the beach for a nice talk. It only costs you gas, and the price of food.
